About Us

In September 2022, at the UN Transforming Education Summit, the Greening Education Partnership (GEP) was launched as a direct response to the Youth Declaration and the Call to Action during the Summit to transform the world through transforming education.

GEP is an open and inclusive community of practice that takes a whole-institution approach by equipping learners with skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviors needed to tackle the climate crisis. Our mission is to empower learners from early childhood through adult education by integrating climate change into existing systems, curricula and ensuring that education systems and learning spaces are climate-smart and crisis resilient.

The GEP aims to deliver coordinated action between all relevant stakeholders including governments to “get every learner climate-ready” through 4 pillars of action:

  1. Greening Schools
  2. Greening Curriculum
  3. Greening Teacher Training education system’s capacities and,
  4. Greening communities.

With its rapidly growing membership of 81 Member States and 1,000+ partners engaged in its four pillars of action, the Partnership is increasingly recognized as a powerful alliance to accelerate global and country-level progress.

GEP is led by National Focal Point of Member States and Partners and is supported by a UNESCO secretariat.

Engr. Rahman O. Mogaji

We shall implement greening programs and projects with a focus on empowering and mobilizing young individuals, communities, and learning cities to take action on climate change. This shall be done through transnational cooperation, joint research projects, green innovation development, creation of green movement and exchanges of global best practices among GEP Member states.

We shall inspire individuals, schools, communities to engage in green practices and embrace lifelong learning approach that integrates climate education into school curricula, technical and vocational education, workplace skills development, teaching materials, pedagogy, and assessment. This shall be done through capacity building and training, accreditation and certification process.
