GETA (Greening Education Transformation Agenda)

The roadmap for nationwide change

GETA is the by-product of GERAP and GERAP*. It consolidates assessment findings and state-level response plans into a National Transformation Agenda that guides how Nigeria implements and scales sustainable education.

GETA focuses on four transformation areas:

  • Greening Schools – upgrading learning environments to model sustainability in design, infrastructure, and culture.
  • Greening Communities – mobilizing local action through climate-smart initiatives, green economy projects, and resilience building.
  • Greening Curriculum – embedding environmental literacy and sustainable development into teaching and learning.
  • Greening Teachers & Youth – empowering educators and young people as change agents for sustainability.

 

GERAP (Greening Education Readiness Assessment Plan)

The Nigeria Greening Education Sector Plan (2025-2030) is a strategic framework designed to integrate climate-smart education into the national education system. Anchored on the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Partnership Compact Theory of Change and Nigeria’s Education for Renewed Hope Agenda, this plan aims to mainstream climate literacy, sustainability practices, and green skills development across all education levels. The plan aligns with Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and global climate action frameworks such as SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
